Pilots

East Sussex Advice Plus has been funded to provide three pilot projects to test and evaluate ways of joint working to enable the delivery of advice in communities currently without it.

Hastings
Having recognised that potential clients were reluctant to access advice directly through the local Citizens Advice Bureau, this weekly service, hosted by LINKS and Citizens Advice 1066, aims to increase provision and take up of advice from the BME community.
As a result of this pilot discussions took place with the local Imams and additional weekly advice sessions have been organised at the town’s mosque.

Newhaven
This pilot project is centred on the development of a community Advice Hub and is providing a joined up service for people in the area, who have previously struggled to access specialist legal and general advice.
Brighton Housing Trust's Specialist Legal Advisors are undertaking regular advice sessions in this community-based venue, alongside advisors from Lewes and Seaford Citizens Advice.
In the first two months, the service received 536 enquiries and provided 174 advice sessions to clients. An additional 362 clients, who needed particular types of advice or who needed to be seen sooner than the Advice Hub was able to accommodate, were assisted to access Seaford or Lewes Citizens Advice

Wealden
This pilot provides enhanced access to Specialist Legal Advice in Welfare Benefits, Debt and Housing in areas where services were previously limited or non-existent.

Wealden is a predominantly rural area, covering approximately one third of East Sussex. Therefore, in addition to the significant scattered pockets of deprivation, the area also provides a particular challenge for those people who require advice who are without their own transport or on a low income.

A Specialist Debt worker has been specifically employed for this pilot and Brighton Housing Trust’s Specialist Advisors are undertaking regular Housing and Welfare Benefit advice sessions in the three Wealden Citizens Advice Bureau’s.
